I hate to say it: I'm glad Sherrod is out of DC. BOTH OF YOU. I can't imagine what's next but I bet our state hero is safer with you, working in his garden.
I got the same weird message about some investment chat. In fact, it landed in my inbox twice. Connie, I think your Substack account has been hacked. Looks like many of your commenters got that same message.
So many of these thoughts rang true. We moved to central Ohio, Delaware, 4 years ago from generational home in Cincinnati. The move was fast forwarded during lockdown with my breast cancer diagnosis. The kids now say we should have done it 5 years sooner, but getting Dad to move took a lot more than we had hoped. We now have 4 grandkids in Delaware, 1 in Pickerington, and 2 in Noblesville, Indiana. The move was good but not without challenges....I still have the antique piano that my father had painstakingly refinished even though I no longer play. I just couldn't see it thrown away but still hope someone will say they would love to have it. So after many words I simply want to say once again, thank you for speaking to my soul.
What a beautiful piece. Thank you for such an amazing idea when making transitions, whether physical or personal. And welcome to Columbus! We are so glad you have come.
From one former Ashtabula girl to another, when I moved to Columbus for college I marveled at the number of sunnier days and earlier spring awakening. Just those few miles down I79 really made a difference! After graduating from college, I worked in Bexley for a wonderful orthodontist and always loved getting to pet or house sit for some of the local families. Bexley is such a lovely neighborhood with all its homes with years of character and landscapes. It's close enough and far enough from the action downtown or at OSU. It's a wonderful place to put down roots for the next phase of your lives. Both of my sisters still live in Ohio- one in Lakewood and the other in North Perry. The pull of that "North coast" sunset keeps them locked into its lakefront grip! I admit, when the time comes to wrap up the house here in West Virginia I will be heading back to my home in Ohio. "Time and change will surely show, how firm thy friendship, O-hi- O!"
I hope you find Bexley as sweet as I did back in the day and settle in like you lived there always!
Congratulations on your new home and many wishes for lots of dreams and happy memories to be realized there. When we moved from the house we raised our children in, we took advice from a good friend. Much like your summoning up of memories room by room, we thanked our house. We thanked it for sheltering us, giving our family a place to grow and a place to dream in. Our children were 13 and 9 at the time and I have a lovely photo from that day. It really helped to say thank you to the house, it made it less painful to let go and to embrace the new house that we were going to turn into our new home. Mazel to you and Sherrod.
After 44 years in our small ranch home, and now alone for several years and with just one sister-in-law as my only family to consider, I've been thinking about a move to a small condo or senior living arrangement. But I just can't seem to make the decision to even consider the pros and cons or decide to really think about a move. I hope your move is exactly what you and Sherrod need and are hoping it will be. Best to you both!
All the best to the two of you in your new home. I have watching for news about Sherrod's next steps but had missed the NYTimes story, so am glad I could catch up with you. Northeast Ohio will miss you but we need you both on a big stage. Now more than ever.
New starts, new houses, new towns are always scary. I come from Northeast Ohio. My father had taken a job "up North" at the Akron Beacon-Journal by the time I was born. He grew up in Worthington, OH. When he was there, it was a tiny little place, adjacent to Columbus. His house sat at the corner of Fox & Warner lanes; named such because the Warners were the 1st human inhabitants, and the foxes were plentiful. My Dad, Dan Warner, is 88-1/2 y.o. now, and wants only to return to Worthington. I hope you come to feel the same way about your new home. Treasure it for how close it brings you to your family; for how easily folks will be able to gather for suppers, to watch Ohio State play, for holidays, and maybe even to play Scrabble with you & Sherrod. My best to you, your family, your new home.
Connie, I can't wait to read soon-to-be-memories in your new home. As a grandmother who lives 2 miles from my precious grandsons, I'm overjoyed that you will experience what I do in being the plan B for sick school days, cheering section for rec league basketball games, and being a hang-out while their parents go off doing errands. It's those simple moments that are so rich.
I have to apologize. I thought someone said you were moving to a condo. I just couldn't imagine that. I wish you wonderful, loving times in your new home
First, congratulations on the new home and hope you make a lot of great memories there.
I moved into senior housing 3 yrs ago and had to make some tough decisions about all the books I had. I went from 8 bookcases down to 4. I work in a nursing home so I gave a lot to co workers who like to read and gave some for the residents to enjoy. Since then, I have had to buy a new bookcase because I swear I think they are breeding on the shelves. Lol . I have tried to be good and tried to get most of my books from the library but I occasionally slip. John Scalzi has a new book coming out tomorrow and I know I’ll end up buying it. I’ll buy the ebook so that way it’s not taking up shelf space. The struggle is real. 🤣

Did the dental (dentist’s) cabinet make this move??😏😎😏. Wink wink

My account has not been hacked, but someone created a fake account with my photo. Sorry about this. The fake account has been reported to Substack.
Is this real?
