My compliments to the author. After much thought, Sherrod should run for governor of Ohio or chair the national Democrat Party. With that said, I must confess that I enjoy your photographs almost as much as your essays, as we are both the same age, our husbands are special guys and our grandchildren are … themselves, which is highly amusing, each in their own way. I “spy” on which books are on people’s shelves and read them. I started doing this when so many shelves popped up during the pandemic when television commentators broadcasted from their homes. I recommend “Delivered by Midwives” as his next nonfiction read (it’s social commentary, not ‘how to’). I also love your plants and seek to own the red one in this post. I hope this does not creep you out. Here’s hoping your arm is healing well and gives you little pain.
Thank you for what you and Sherrod have done for Ohio and the country. I would like to further the cause by continuing Sherrod’s practice of handing out canary pins. I have already purchased the pins but need the informational cards to hand out with the pins. Is there a place that I can purchase the cards. I hope to see Sherrod making a run for the senate seat when we vote again. Judy
In the proceeding pix, my eyes picked you out first, as they always do and I did immediately notice the sling your arm was in and would have asked about it. Thank you for addressing that CSB. Wishing you quick complete healing, yet knowing that our shoulders are a crappy joint and there will be PT to recover. Embrace it ~
Thank you for this post. I needed it! There have been a few cold days when I didn’t even open the curtains; not because of the cold, but just because I felt I wanted to protect us from the outside chaos.
You are right. We need to keep getting up, moving forward and doing what we can to keep this great country of ours from disappearing into the chaotic nonsense of this administration.
I will never be able to match your and Sherrod’s commitment, but I will keep doing small things that I hope will make a difference.
I love the lighting of your writing room - looks so comfy & inviting. I got a kick out of Sherrod’s surrendering to the couch to wait for you. :) Hoping the shoulder heals quickly. Thank you for some uplifting thoughts. And thank you for your dedication in braving a snow storm to meet with so many others concerned about our way forward. I know you were appreciated.
You have given us strength. Please take care of you now. Our community of Democratic Clubs in Northeast Ohio will continue to build tonight as we meet on Zoom in this bitter cold for training on how the Ohio Statehouse works. Onward!
Thank you, Connie/It’s now 1/23 - just after midnight. My body clock has changed and it’s odd. I’d saved this for a bedtime read for comfort and so it is except the injury. Oy! Heal well. Try dictation to transcription to ensure healing without straining. Next steps (physical and metaphorical and real) will come. We count on you and Sherrod.
Having been stopped in my tracks during a particularly trying time with a broken ankle in the past, I can totally relate to your injury. Time to stop, grieve, assess and thoughtfully move forward with intention. Our actions now will help shape our future. I’m standing with you and Sherrod because I trust and value your actions. Hope your shoulder heals quickly. Take care.
So grateful to you and Sherrod for coming out in the cold to share your warmth with all of us. We need you more than ever. Hope your arm is healing well! -Maria W
Well, it’s time to heal. Go ahead and grieve, get angry, watch/listen to comedy, breathe, and get ready to do what needs to be done with love, clarity, and understanding. Regular people whether enlightened or not will need our help.
Oh darn it, I’m so sorry you injured your shoulder. Thank you for making such an effort to create hope for us, your dear readers. You’re very right that we have been here before. Reading your words gives me hope. This photo of Sherrod and Franklin makes me feel calm. Thank you Connie

I haven't received your wonderful essays in a while. I renewed my subscription. If you're taking a well-deserved break, great. Thanks, Beth Johnson
Thank you!! I bet the dogs are happy!!

“Their joy was a welcome reminder that life is never one thing.” This is the part I need to hold. Thank you

Bless your heart sweetie. I’ve been in the same boat. If you place the keyboard in your lap, you can type in a sling. Get rest.

I hope that shoulder is better soon.

Even in pain, Connie brings the common sense, the courage, and the Carlin. Brava. Heal well!

So sorry I meant Walter!
