It was all a wonderful paean to the true joy of true love, and it all made me smile. But this was my favorite line: "Fortunately, those days are long behind me, as are the careers of most of those men." I do so love a snarky woman. And how nice that one of my favorite US Senators does, too!
"like" seems like--- such a flimsy word to describe the joy I feel when I read one of Connie's columns. When the words she chooses bring tears to my eyes and I want nothing more than to reread them.
Happy Anniversary to you both! It’s always a pleasure to see two people who are so down to earth, and obviously crazy about each other after all those years. Many more happy years to you both.
Happy Anniversary! I too am married for the second time…we will be married 20 years in October.
My older son was married 21 years ago on January 15, which happened to be the 10th anniversary of my mother’s death. At the time, I didn’t mention it, but later at a gathering, I did talk about it. I said that I now have a good reason to mark the day, so it has become a happy day instead of just a sad one.
Hi Connie, I thought you might like to see this exchange we had via email away back when: Me to you 11/25/2003: "I am pleased to see (according to Cleveland Magazine!) that you and Congressman Sherrod Brown are dating. I am very happy for both of you. The Congressman is a fine man, and I know from reading your column that you are a lovely person."
Your reply 12/1/2003: "Sherrod and I were engaged on Thanksgiving. Clearly, I share your assessment of him, and I showed your to him. We both thank you."
I love this post and couldn't be happier for you and Sherrod. The world is a better place with both of you in it. And together you make it even more wonderful. Wishing you decades of shared love and laughter.
I can identify with the over 50 remarriage thing. I was 51, she was 48. We've been together for almost 27 years. These years are very sweet; retirement, kids, grandkids, and relatively good health. Now if we can protect our daughters and granddaughters right to choose.
Well, this is lovely and delightful, like the woman who wrote it and the man with the good sense to marry her. Happy anniversary to you both!

Nobody can beat an 8 year old for telling the truth. She’s quite a wonderful kid, isn’t she?
What a kind and moving thread here. Thank you to all of you who have taken the time to write. As always, I read every comment, every story you share.

Happy Anniversary Kids! The world is so lucky to have you both and we're happy that you have found each other! <3
This may be my favorite thing you have written. I love your love story. <3

Beautiful. Happy Anniversary. This made my heart smile in appreciation and my eyes leak a few tears for the joy of your union and experience. 💜
“Grandpa’s pretty silly about you,” she said. “I like that in a man.”
Made my week.
The happiest of anniversaries to you and Sherrod, and May there be a gazillion more!
