I loved this story and it reminded me of my own history. Your parents helped you to a better life, mine did, too. Keep telling us the beautiful stories of your life and your struggles, and griefs, and how you worked through them. I have always admired Sherrod Brown and how he concerned himself with the working man. We are worried about the next President being shadowed and controlled by a rich and evil man. I will be watching for them, and you are a great writer. 🌹

Guess what showed up at my door today??? LOLA AND THE TROLL!!! I bought it for myself — a 70-year old woman. I have no human children, but I shall surely read it to my rescue puppers! Connie, thanks for all you do.❤️

Thank you. I just read your Thanksgiving column and am so appreciative of your unique voice, which captures similar, relatable experiences to my own. You bring tears, laughter, and “YES!” to me each time I read a piece of your writing. I am so glad I found you. Thank you for sharing your grieving process - so beautifully crafted - and the importance of community in these challenging times. I am so sorry for Sherrod’s loss and wish I lived in Ohio so I could have added my vote. I am hopeful that the next step will become clearer in time, and I send hugs in the meantime.

Late to reading this I'm so glad I did.It was one I saved from my ruthless purge of other Thanksgiving week columns that I just wasn't gonna get to.

It turned out to be one of my favorite columns of yours, ever , and I've been your fan since you wrote from California of all places.

Your/my/monster is still in my brain - hasn't moved much, BUT, I'm traveling with beloved family through parts of our great country where he might be welcomed and disembark.

I’m currently making friends with grief or, as the song says, “good morning heartache, sit down.” Your words are helping me through the sudden loss of my partner of almost 3 decades and through a difficult Thanksgiving weekend. Thank you.

That top picture just might be the best picture ever in life. Love the cookie jar on the top shelf, love the story about it! That monster came to stay in my home for awhile. I'm hopeful we'll get bored of each other soon. Onward!

Thank you for making room at the kitchen table for the monster, and me, and my monster ❤️ I just finished cleaning up and this was a treat.

I'm so very grateful for you, Sherrod, and all the others who spent every ounce of their energy and joy and generosity in trying to keep this country on a track that upholds all of us - not just a chosen few. Absolutely heartbroken that things wound up as they did, but I'm convinced there's a silver lining. They won it all. Now they have to wear and own the fallout. Us? 2026 gives hope, and 2028 even greater hope. In the meantime, from the bottom of my heart, thank you, Connie. I'm so very glad that you and Sherrod are out there. Be well, stay warm, and know that you're loved.

I am told by my children I am a terrible photographer . Whenever I take photos of them they demand to see the result and inevitably one of the three demand I delete it. I ignore them . This year I decided to do a family calendar and asked all of them, grands and daughters for their favorite photos for it, giving months literally and reminders for their submissions. Lots of excuses and little substance. I used a lot of my own that I love and the calendar is lovely. I am in but a handful and that's ok
