Love this:) When I was a mail carrier for a summer as a teen I had some close calls with dogs and the fear has never completely dissipated. I had childhood pets I loved and had a few when the kids were little that didn’t work out with our lives and they were given to people that had more time. I love my granddogs!
My husband retired and we picture a dog at some point. I’ve been instructed by my daughter that I should wait until her little doggy is gone because he has anxiety around other dogs after a very close call) and we’re in no hurry for that to happen:)
My husband just retired so we can dream of the day now☮️
Carrots! I'm so glad your dogs love carrot. People always look sideways when we give in to Ollie's barking and fetch him a carrot. Courgette goes down well, too. And now he's moved on to Pak Choi. But I can never figure out if he's a gourmet or just a gourmand....
I love this. My boyfriend and I have filled our empty nest house with rescues and you put into words so eloquently the experience of living life with a rescue pup. 🐶💕
Love living vicariously with your cute dogs! With no fenced yard, I am not willing to do 11 pm and 6 am walks, at my age...which is in my opportunity 70s.
I loved your article. You always cheer me up. We lost our fur child Desi last year after 15 years. He followed me like Walter does you and looked at me and my husband like Walter does you. Franklin is also a love. Not quite ready for another dog but soon. My fingers are crossed for your husband to win and admire your writing. Do you still have the tree up? I loved that. Thank you for your uplifting writing. ❤️
We had taken in an old lady schnauzer who died after 10 months with us. Our other dog just grieved. We prayed that God would send us another schnauzer who needed us. The next day, I was asked if I knew anyone who would take a 7 year old male whose human was entering a nursing home. Pepper lived to be 13 with us and made a very good member of our family. God is good.
I read this column with much love - after 5 years without a dog, Minnie found me last month. I am deliriously happy have this little Zen cairn to walk around our village. I thought I was too old to have another dog. I was wrong. Love from Minnie to Franklin and Walter!

This was exactly the smile I needed this morning. Thanks, Connie.

Happy Labor Day to Walter. His namesake was a pretty important American.
