I wish that more Americans understood that Palestinians deserve our love and not our bombs. And that Palestinian mothers love their children as much as we love ours.
I just heard on the radio that your husband is calling for President Biden to step aside. I really thought that he was one of the good guys, but I guess I was wrong. He is judging him on 90 minutes, of the last 3 1/2 years. I have to admit I am completely disgusted by any democrat that is calling for this. There is no good reason for it, after all he has accomplished. And all I can think to say, that won't come out completely foul, which You do not deserve, is
Et tu Brutus?
This is a stab in the back of a good man. A great President. And I believe it is time for the democratic party to stand United behind President Biden and see him reelected. Thankfully here in Georgia, both my Senators are standing behind him. Sherrod needs to do the same. Please let him know. Thank-you.
Heidi, this is my Substack, my writing, not my husband’s. There are ways to reach Sherrod with your opinion. This is not one of them. I hope you can respect that.
Just have to say I really loved your description of the groundhog in the vegetable garden at the beginning—it's so vivid and easy to imagine the little animal as "the lord of the manor surveying his evening buffet."
I love the way you describe your love for your husband, it's so beautiful. As a young person, I feel like people have stopped recognizing the value of marriage over recent decades, but my cherished hope is to find a love like what you describe!
"To me, that’s the surprise of love, the way it sneaks up on you and makes you feel better about the day, the week, the year."
Thank you, Ramya. I had to learn how to be happy on my own. Only then, I’ve learned, could this love of a lifetime have found me. I am hopeful for you.
So true. Thank-you. Unfortunately there are many questions that are not being asked by the press about this ‘assassination’ attempt.
That conveniently happened just prior to the RNC. Why was the shooter allowed to bring a ladder and climb on a roof directly across from Trump w/o being stopped? Why was Trump allowed to stand after the ‘attack’ (fully exposed to any possible second shooter) for a photo op shouting Fight, Fight,
Fight? Why have there been no hospital or doctor reports on Donald’s ‘injury’ Why was he not wearing any bandage the day after the shooting (no visible injury) when he went golfing instead of checking in with the families of the dead and injured from his rally.
Why did he wear a cartoonishly large bandage to the RNC while a phot of him with Vance just prior to Vance’s nomination shows no injury to his ear. While I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments expressed in this Substack and am a longtime supporter of Sherrod I think this ‘assassination’ attempt smells rotten. Trump wants to be a Ming and he and his enablers will do anything to get back in power and end our democracy. Don’t let your sympathies override the real issues with this event
Your gift of hope buoys mine. I just sent a voice memo to our kids that I know we’re going to be ok. I know that because, with the gift of therapy, this glass half empty girl has learned how to see that it’s half full. Connecting my mind and heart has kept me looking for the good-and that is not my norm.
Our democracy is a gift that keeps us living this life and that’s why the fight is so hard against it-control despises empathy. When we see each other and know that a rising tide lifts all boats that brings change born from love instead of reactions based on fear and that is confounding. The people we love keep stoking that ember in us-we got this☮️
Cheri, I find your message truly inspiring and filled with hope.
It's wonderful to hear how therapy has helped you shift your perspective to see the glass as half full. I also love the idea that empathy and love can drive positive change in our democracy.
Thanks for sharing your journey and this uplifting perspective!
Thank you Connie. I needed to “hear” these words and read other’s comments. There is a reason I have read you for so many years on different platforms- your writing is wise and calm.
Thank you for this beautiful essay. It means so very much to me in these days.
Thank you.

I am grateful that your words are some of the first I've read since joining Substack today. Beautifully descriptive, true and yes, hopeful. Thank you
Thank you, Gayle. Welcome!

You are right of course. I apologize. I am just very upset and terrified.
I understand. Thank you for clarifying.
The only violent insurrectionists on January 6th, dear, were those that Obama and Pelosi told to be there.
You’re severely under a spell. And trust me, it isn’t love.
Sure, dumpling.
Always, act in love
Yup.
Wants to be a King (both of our country and like the martyr MLK was)
